So, a funny thing happened today. And, oddly enough, my love of wine sort of saved the day! Today, it was very hot here in New York. I figured this was the day that I needed to drag my son's pool out of the basement, blow it up and fill her up! It is one of those long pools, sort of rectangular in shape, and about 2 feet deep. It's enough to cool off, splash around and have fun in! Ok, so I drag it out and locate the electric pump to blow it up, which the pool has three separate sections that need to be blown up. Well, at this time I noticed that somehow from the last time it was used, some plugs were missing. It takes three, and I had two of the three. Shoot. What am I going to do now, right?
I began looking around my kitchen to see if there were something I could use. What the pool came with was a little rubber plug, with a screw cap to go over that. So, for the third one, I was missing both the plug and the screw top. In my kitchen "junk drawer", I noticed I had a wine bottle stopper, just this cheap thing that came in a pack of two, that I bought at the dollar store. I compared the size and it looked like it just might work! So, I take the wine stopper outside to the pool and gave it a try! It did fit, but the next question was, would it fit and stay in place after blowing up the pool. I blew it up, inserted the wine stopper into the hole, and........it worked!!! My son had hours and hours of fun in his pool today, and thanks to a cheap wine bottle stopper, it made it all possible!
So, I guess the moral of my little story is...love wine because seriously, there are just so many reasons to love it! And also, don't be afraid to play MacGyver and think outside the box when you need to fix something or come up with a solution!
